Divrei Torah (Sermons)
This past June, residents of Vero Beach woke up one morning to discover antisemitic flyers on their driveways. Members of the Jewish community were scared. I used the text of parshat Korach, the words of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, and an experience from recent trip to EPCOT to help the community move forward in the situation.
In June of 2021, I was tasked with leading our yearly Pride service and giving the d’var Torah on parshat Balak. Bil’am’s curse-turned-blessing teaches us how we can use our words to engage acts of audacious hospitality toward LGBTQIA+ members of our community.
In July of 2021, the Champlain Towers South condominium building in Surfside collapsed in the middle of the night. Several members of the Jewish community in Vero Beach had friends or family who were in the building at the time and went missing or were declared dead. I used the lessons from parshat Pinchas to discuss our communal response to the condo collapse.
